Charlesetta Owens

Charlesetta Owens was born to Ruffus and Vessie Lee Hoskins on April 5, 1956 in St. Louis, Missouri. She was the third of five children. Her mother Vessie preceded her in death on April 10, 2000. Charlesetta attended St. Louis County public schools and graduated from University City High School in May 1974. She continued her education at Fontbonne University where she majored in Business Administration. In December 1973, Charlesetta began working for Southwestern Bell/AT&T and worked for 30 years until her retirement in June 2012. On March 31, 1991, she was baptized in the name of Jesus at the Refuge Temple Pentecostal Church of Christ in East St. Louis, Illinois, under the late District Elder Luther A. Rich. She attended this assembly for a while and later began supporting her sisters with numerous Bethesda Temple Church Camp J.A.M. programs with her culinary expertise. She was well known for baking delicious home-made sweet potato pies, cobblers, old-fashioned tea cakes and butter rolls and preparing good southern dishes. On March 28, 1996 she was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Galvin C. Owens. From this union, two sons were born: Evan Michael and Dana Ivan. Charlesetta – lovingly known to her family and others as “Charlie” or “Cho” was a loving caregiver. She was genuine, kind, compassionate and a giving individual. She lovingly honored her marital vows and devoted more than 10 years to caring for her husband during his time of critical illness until his death on May 29, 2015. Cho was funny, loved to laugh, and enjoyed being with her family. In addition to cooking, she loved collecting elephants and the concept of what they symbolize. Cho also enjoyed watching HGTV and renovating/remodeling houses. To know her was to love her! So today, her family celebrates her life! She leaves to cherish her memories, two sons: Evan Michael and Dana Ivan; her dad: Mr. Ruffus Hoskins; her brother: Mr. Oscar Hoskins; her three sisters: Dr. Jacqueline Hoskins and Ms. Debbrie Swayne (all of St. Louis, Missouri); and Ms. Loretta Littlejohn of Duluth, Georgia. She leaves four nieces: LaJuanda Lynette Gammon of Duluth, GA., Jessica Dionni Hoskins, Aja Debbrie Swayne and Asia Danielle Hoskins; three nephews: Corey Lamar Hoskins, Stefan Isaac Swayne and Dustin Michael Hoskins; two great nieces: Destini Hoskins, Dionni Chai Hoskins; and one great nephew: Dustin Michael Hoskins, Jr. (all of St. Louis, Missouri). Charlesetta also leaves to cherish her memory step-children: Valerie Rodgers, Galvin Jr., Claudia Ann and Antoinette Owens; Kesha, Jamil, Eric, Carmen and Steven Owens; Corey Hall; and Nikita and Kimberly Berry. She leaves many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and two long-time dear friends, Shirley Agnew and Beverly Hudson.
