Dorothy Mae Fleming

Mrs. Dorothy M. Fleming was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on February 26, 1918 to the union of Mr. Charlie Rogers and Mrs. Hazel McCloud-Rogers. To this union three children were born: Charles, Dorothy and Thomas. She was married to her former spouse, William “Horsecollar” Fleming, a local barber and businessman. Dorothy’s husband, parents and siblings all precede her in death. The Rogers family left Arkansas and later settled in the metropolitan St. Louis, MO area. She received her formal education in the St. Louis City school system and graduated from one of the city’s high schools. Dorothy Mae met her husband, William Fleming, and they were joined in marriage in the home of the late Rev. Walter B. Rouse, former pastor of Mt. Zion MB Church. Dorothy confessed and gave her life to Christ at an early age. Her original faith was Catholic and she was a member of St. Joe Catholic Church (East St. Louis, IL) under the direction of the late Father Poelker. After many years of believing in the Catholic faith, she converted to the Baptist faith and later joined her husband, William, as a member of the Mt. Zion MB Church under the pastoral ship of the late Rev. John H. Rouse. Her passion was clothing and “dressing well.” Dorothy worked in retail clothing sales having originally been employed as an elevator operator at the Wilbur Rodgers clothing store. She worked in retail for over 45 years and retired from the exclusive Bonds’ Clothier Company formerly located in downtown St. Louis, MO. She departed this life on August 19, 2016. Dorothy M. Fleming leaves to cherish her memory: step-son, James Davis Fleming (Memphis TN); (East St Louis IL); nephews, James Evans (Edwardsville, IL), Joseph Wilson (Chicago IL); Alvin (Joann) Barrett, Jr (St Louis, MO); nieces, Laverne Riley (Washington Park, IL), Lois Riley (Belleville, IL), Yvonnejennai Fleming-Stewart (East St Louis, IL), Shirley Fleming (Chicago, IL), Kathy Fleming-Westley (Shiloh, IL), Heavenly Fleming-Jacox (Edwardsville, IL), Yvette (John) Barrett-Gage (East St Louis, IL); cousins; grand goddaughter, Akiko Takahashi-Wilson (Kalamazoo, MI); a host of great and great-great nephews and nieces, other relatives, friends, care giver, Sylvester “Prim” Johnson, residents of the Caseyville, IL Nursing Home and the Wednesday Evening Prayer Band of Mt.
