Gregory Lewis Sally

January 14, 1962 — September 3, 2019

Gregory "Lewis" Sally was born to the late Marcellus Alexander and Hattie Sally on January 14, 1962 in Grenada, Mississippi.  He was the ninth son of his mother's fifteen children.  His Father, Mother, six brothers, and one sister preceded him death.

Gregory was baptized at a younger age at First New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Grenada, Mississippi.  However, Lewis renewed his vows to his Saviour within the last three months.  He would delare and testify to all that would listen that he was "Blessed by the Best" and that God did this.

Gregory received the majority of his education in the Grenada County Public education system.  As a student that competed for recognition, Gregory won the local coloring contests during his earlier school years.  Later when his family moved to Gary, Indiana he became interested in sports.  As an East Side Flyer, he became a wrestler.  Most friends in Washington Park will remember him as the game room attendant on 44th and Caseyville.

In 1984, Gregory and his wife moved to Chicago to start a new life.  It was to this union that three beautiful daughters were born.  These three girls became his most prized jewels, although he raised them to be tough, self-sufficient, and independent.  These girls had to learn things about cars, house repairs, and still learn to preserve food for the winter.

Gregory was a laborer at Sheffield Steel, Francis & Nygren, and H. Kramer.  As a laborer for the various steel companies, he served in many positions; forklift driver, cranesman, pourer, plant manager etc.  He was a person that believed it was his responsibility to complete what was set before him.

Gregory, Greg, Lewis, Lou, Uncle Lewis, Mr Sally, Cuz will be sadly missed by the many people's lives he touched.  His family and friends on Marshfield Ave in Chicago, Illinois will miss his sharing of vegetables, meals, cutting grass, or removing snow during the winter.  This daddy of the block, counselor, friend, son, and plain good old neighbor Lewis could be straight forward when he shared his words of wisdom.  He was a take it or leave it kind of guy, but he did everything out of love.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his three daughters: Erica Morgan(Derrick) of Chicago,IL., Jessica Smith (Michael), of Cahokia, IL., and Mekia Sally of Fairview Heights, IL.; eleven grandchildren, Cameron, Cortez, Je'Kia of Chicago, IL., Dewayne, Germany, Jonathan, Jalen, Devin, Caiden, Mackenzie of Cahokia, IL., Jordan, and Madison of Fairview Heights , IL.; Left to honor his legacy as a wonderful sibling are his five brothers, Albert (Mary) of Washington Park, Frederick of Chicago, IL Lawrence of Washington Park, IL Martin (Kelly) of Huntsville, AL., John (Chandra) of Huntsville, AL.; three sisters, Henrietta Sally of East St. Louis, IL., Geneva Morris of Chicago, IL., and Marie Sally of Belleville, IL.
