Mattie Ivery

On November 12, 1934, in New Madrid, Missouri, born into the union of Walter and Dixie Ivery was a beautiful baby girl they named Mattie Dale Ivery. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Walter Ivery, Jr., and Lawrence Ivery. Mattie was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mattie was affectionately known to her family and friends as “Sister Girl”. She came by the nickname by way of her mother who was known to one and all as “Sister” and as her daughter she became “Sister Girl”. It stuck. Mattie was fun loving and doted upon by her parents and brothers. She was a quiet and humble person with a kind soul and a big heart. She enjoyed traveling and spent several years living in the San Francisco Bay area. A good day for Mattie was eating her favorite foods; Pepsi, Twinkies, Churches Chicken, and of course going shopping. However, her greatest pleasure was playing cards (Spades) with her nephew and socializing with her family and friends. On Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Bernard Care Center, Mattie departed this life after a lengthy illness. Her nieces Veronica and Brenda were by her side. Mattie leaves to rejoice and cherish her memory nieces; Veronica Brooks of E. St. Louis, IL, Brenda McElwee of O’Fallon, IL, Marilyn Stewart of Chicago, IL, Sarita Ivery of St. Louis, MO, Lisa Jackson of E. St. Louis, IL, Karn Thomas of E. St. Louis, IL. Her great nieces, Roshonda, Shaaronda, and Latresha Brooks all of E. St. Louis, Antoinette Josato of O’Fallon, IL, Chabre Ross of Chicago, IL, and Sarita Ivery of Las Vegas, NV. Nephews; Walter, Darnell, Tyrone, Frederick Ivery, and Tracy Jackson all of St. Louis, MO, and Walter Jackson of E. St. Louis, IL. Great nephews; Bryan Samuels and Demetrius Jackson, of E. St. Louis, Terrance Salone of Chicago, IL, Frank Lyles, of St Louis, MO. As well as a host of great-great nephews and nieces, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
